Afjat: A Modern Display Font for Web Design Projects

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store selling handmade jewelry, and I needed a font that felt both elegant and approachable. After testing several options, I landed on Afjat—a display font with a clean, relaxed look that brought a fresh energy to the project.

First Impressions of Afjat

Afjat immediately stood out for its simplicity and visual balance. It has a modern feel without being too rigid, which made it perfect for a brand that wanted to feel personal yet professional. The letterforms are slightly rounded but not overly so, giving it a friendly and contemporary vibe. It's one of those fonts that you can use in a variety of contexts without it feeling out of place.

What caught my attention was how well it worked over image banners. When placed against a background photo of a handcrafted necklace, the text didn’t overpower the image—it complemented it. That’s a big plus when designing hero sections or promotional banners where readability and aesthetics must coexist.

Using Afjat in Real Web Design Scenarios

For the jewelry store, I used Afjat as the primary font for headlines and section titles. It looked great in the hero section, especially when paired with a sans serif font like Montserrat for body copy. This combination gave the site a polished look while keeping the content easy to read.

I also tested it on mobile layouts. Because Afjat is relatively thin and has good spacing between letters, it remained legible even on smaller screens. This is crucial since more than half of the site’s traffic came from mobile devices. I made sure to adjust the font size and line height to maintain readability across all screen sizes.

Another area where Afjat shone was in call-to-action buttons. Its clean lines and subtle weight made the buttons stand out without looking too bold or aggressive. It added just the right amount of personality to elements like “Shop Now” or “Explore Collection.”

Readability and Visual Hierarchy

One thing I always consider when choosing a display font is how it affects scanning behavior. Afjat, with its open counters and balanced structure, helped guide the user’s eye through the page naturally. It didn’t distract from the content but instead supported the overall message.

On the product landing pages, I used Afjat for feature headings. Each section had a different subheading in this font, which helped break up the content and create a visual rhythm. Users could quickly scan through the page and find what they were looking for, which improved the overall experience.

When it came to dark backgrounds, I noticed that Afjat still maintained good contrast. I used it sparingly in a few hero sections with deep navy backgrounds and white text. The font didn’t lose its clarity, which was reassuring for a design that needed to work in multiple color schemes.

Font Pairing and Brand Consistency

Afjat works best when paired with a complementary sans serif or serif font for body text. In this case, pairing it with a neutral sans serif like Open Sans created a nice contrast. The decorative nature of Afjat was balanced by the simplicity of the supporting typeface, ensuring the site didn’t feel too cluttered or too plain.

I also considered using Afjat in digital ads and social media graphics. Its modern appeal made it ideal for short phrases and taglines, especially in campaigns targeting younger audiences. It added a touch of sophistication without compromising the casual tone of the brand.

It’s important to check the font’s available styles before committing to it. Afjat comes with several weights and alternates, which gives designers flexibility in their layout choices. I found that using lighter weights for subtitles and heavier ones for main headlines helped reinforce the visual hierarchy effectively.

Practical Tips for Using Afjat

If you’re considering using Afjat for your next web project, here are a few practical tips:

Afjat is a versatile display font that can elevate your web design projects without overwhelming them. Whether you're building a portfolio site, a course sales page, or a small business website, this font brings a modern, clean aesthetic that aligns well with today’s digital design trends.

As I wrapped up the jewelry store redesign, I felt confident that Afjat contributed to a more polished brand experience. It wasn’t just about the look—it was about how it helped users interact with the site in a way that felt natural and intuitive.
